BLOG AND PORTFOLIO
Louise Orwin is an artist-researcher living and working in East London. Her work is informed by and pre-supposes the cultural limitations imposed upon her as a body loaded with a female countenance. She creates work which conveys a preoccupation with this female body and its conception and reception within popular culture. Her ever-evolving practice seeks to fuse the horrifyingly intimate with the excruciatingly public, often engaging its audiences in demanding, exciting and risk-taking positions: always asking not only what the audience may take from the performance, but what the performance may take from its audiences. Her work spans the live and the recorded with incarnations in performance, video and photography. Mixing the highly theatrical with the perfectly mundane, her artwork challenges what we may conceive of as entertaining in a fast-moving, and media saturated world.

Definitely still formulating my ideas after Ann Liv Young’s Mermaid Show in Birmingham last night. Still feel too close to feel in any way objective about the experience.
This is the second time I’ve watched this interview/video- brings something new after the experience last night.

THE CHOSEN ONES…
WHAT DID YOU LEAVE BEHIND IN THE BARBIE DREAMHOUSE??
(all photos from barbie’s disposable camera from inXclusion festival, Feb 2012
the long-awaited inXclusion pictures from Barbie’s disposable camera.. It’s been a long time coming but it’ll be worth it. Going up tomorrow.
Also- in other news I will finally be blogging about GLASGOW BUZZCUT- which deserves a pleasant word or ten.
putting together some programme notes for Humiliation Piece ahead of the show in Glasgow. Making me think about lots of important things like: audience expectations, being nice to audiences, making audience members feel safe, and a whole lot about making your audience your contractual partner in crime for the evening….
‘this is just as much about me as it is about you… but its mostly about you’
Really hoping this new angle goes down well in the show on Friday- such a good slot too: Friday night at 8.15pm. We all know what this means: BOOZE. This can surely only make the show better.
Thinking lots about the ‘dual reactions’ of audience members that was discussed a lot at the scratch in Brighton- really trying to bring this out more in this show, have worked on a new ending (or coda as i like to say when i’m feeling really pretentious).
excited: cant wait to see how it all goes down!

Have a peep at this article where the music director-cum-scientist describes the concept behind the video:
